31/05/2016 11.30-13.30 Economic Outlook 2016 – Is China in for A Hard Landing?   The economic landscape at the beginning of 2016 is undoubtedly more challenging to decipher than in previous years. The National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC) have released the preliminary estimation for GDP data in the first quarter Q1 2016 at 15,852.6 billion yuan. The overall growth rate of 6.7% could be an indication of mounting pressure of economic development and China’s adjustment to the ‘new normal’.   China is transitioning from a manufacturing-led to a consumer-led economy, which may create uncertainty over China’s growth path and the outlook for capital flows. Are reforms on track and what does the slowing GDP growth rate mean for foreign businesses in China?   The British Chamber Shanghai’s Financial Services Focus Group invites Dr. Oliver Rui, Professor of Finance and Accounting at CEIBS, to offer his expert insight on the above issues and provide members with an outlook of the Chinese economy for the rest of 2016. Cost:   TBC. Members only. TBC, SHANGHAI
