|China’s Great Media Wall: Opportunities and Censorship
It’s easy to make assumptions about the media in China. That all channels are tightly controlled, restricted and largely ‘closed’ to authentic or creative communication. That if businesses have one big idea, and put it across using one channel – most often TV – they can expect it to reach and influence all their target audiences.
This is no longer the case: China’s media environment is extremely dynamic, powerful, complex and fragmented. There are opportunities for businesses looking to enter the market to tell a powerful story that wins customers and builds loyalty, but they need to understand and adapt their marketing to the ways people use media today.

|Workshop: Introduction to Personal Branding
Everyone has a personal brand whether they know it or not. It has a lot to do with your reputation, rapport, trust and impression you leave with others around you, those you connect with on social media and the people in your market. In this way, your ‘Personal Brand’ is nothing new.
However, if you’re not actively defining, developing and marketing your brand in the ways that matter, you may get lost in the crowd. This is where personal branding can be important, because it allows individuals to share who they are and show why they are different from others in their field. Differentiation is crucial to getting your brand noticed.

|Day trip to Shidu; Drift down a river, Glass Skywalk, Rambling, BBQ Lunch
Shidu is in Beijing’s Fangshan District (South West Beijing) and is about 4 kilometres from the border with Hebei.
We first discovered Shidu as a day trip destination back in 2007 and have re-visited it many times over the intervening years.
Shidu (literally 10th Crossing) is often referred to as the ‘mini River Li” (Guilin and Yangshuo) and is considered to have the most beautiful waterscape in suburban Beijing.
We believe that you too will find that the combination of the calm, winding Juma River and the pretty, green mountains that straddle it justify this reputation.
Our programme for the day includes lazily drifting along the Juma River, a healthy BBQ lunch from the local farm (and drinks), a stroll though some of the best scenic spots (think East Lake Port) and the glass skywalk.

|SME CEO Roundtable Series – Creating Compensation and Incentive Structures for High Performance
Talent attraction is always challenging for SMEs comparing to large companies, but talent retention and mobilization may be even more challenging due to the limited resources of SMEs. SME leaders always find their employees poached by large companies with better salary or more promising future, and the high turnover in the company increases its operation costs and business risks. A good compensation and incentive (C&I) scheme can sustain positive changes by retaining the right talents and enabling their improved performance.

|The Expat Life Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner
The evening includes the Awards Ceremony, a chance to browse select vendors, live performances and a 5 course meal.
Beijing today is no longer a consumer hardship posting for expatriates.
The opposite, there is a wide and very diverse range of products and services available. In fact there is now so much choice that at times it is hard to know what to buy or which service provider to use.
The ELAs were designed so that the Expatriate community could show their support for their preferred vendors.
The winning vendor will be able to proudly confirm to new arrivals and old hands alike that they were awarded an ELA in recognition of the quality of their services.
The 2016 ELAs will be granted to 25 categories of service providers.
The winners were decided by an on-line voting process.
There was no cost involved in being nominated and it was open to any provider of goods or services that might be of interest to Beijing’s expatriate community.
